Who we are
Welcome to Rogue Priest, where we share ideas, insights, and experiences with our community.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect the information provided in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to aid in spam detection.
Additionally, an anonymized string generated from your email address (known as a hash) may be shared with the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. You can review Gravatar’s privacy policy here. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes publicly visible in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to our website, we recommend avoiding images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors may be able to extract location information from images displayed on the site.
Cookies
- Commenting: When you leave a comment, you can opt to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience, allowing you to comment again without re-entering details. These cookies last for one year.
- Login: A temporary cookie is set on the login page to check if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is removed when you close your browser.
- Logged-in Users: Upon login, we save cookies that store your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last two days, and screen preference cookies last one year. Choosing “Remember Me” extends login persistence to two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.
- Publishing: If you edit or publish an article, a cookie will be stored in your browser, holding the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded content
Articles on this site may feature embedded content (e.g., videos, images, or articles) from other websites. Embedded content behaves as if you visited the external site directly, meaning it may collect data, use cookies, or incorporate third-party tracking. If you have an account and are logged into the external site, your interactions may also be monitored.
Data Sharing
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
Data Retention
- Comments: Your comments and associated metadata are retained indefinitely to enable automatic approval of follow-up comments instead of manual moderation.
- User Accounts: For registered users, we store the personal information provided in their profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Administrators can also access and modify user information.
Your Rights Over Your Data
If you have an account or have left comments on our site, you may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. Additionally, you can ask us to erase your personal data. However, this does not include data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be processed through an automated spam detection service.
